On the 9th of April, the day after Vesak Poya Day, all of the Prabhavi students got together to make orange juice to give out free to passers by. Students brought oranges, limes, sugar and cordial and set to work at 7 am peeling the fruit. When the juice was made we set up a stall by the roadside in Werankatagoda village, opposite Prabhavi Library. Students enjoyed flagging down the traffic and providing everyone with their refreshing juice.

Submitted by Joanna on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 12:52We were very happy to welcome Mr. Jagath Samarabandu from The University of Western Ontario, Canada and Ms. Hiranthi Pathirana from Colombo to Prabhavi Resources Center. They came and stayed with us from the 15th to the 19th of February. Ms. Hiranthi ran an art workshop for the school students in Prabhavi Community Library. The children really enjoyed the chance to learn different methods for drawing in charcoal.
Narrowcasting in the Village
Submitted by Joanna on Fri, 02/13/2009 - 14:31Prabhavi Community Radio can now be heard for the first time around Werankatagoda village. Our radio has, up to now, only been available online. This presents a problem as very few people in this area have internet connections or the time to spend in the Nenasala listening to the radio. We have to take our radio to the people. Our major goal is to secure an FM broadcasting license, but whilst we are going through the motions of getting that, we can bridge the gap with narrowcasting.
Deyata Kirula Exhibition and ICTA Conference
Submitted by Joanna on Mon, 02/09/2009 - 12:53Nelan and Asiri have just been to Colombo for an ICTA conference. I'm not sure I can say how useful it may or may not have been. Whilst in Colombo, however, they had a great opportunity to see the Deyata Kirula Exhibition with stands ranging from business and commerce to media and defense. Particularly interesting for Prabhavi was the stand from the Post Harvesting Unit and meeting people involved in organic agriculture, packaging design as well as projects such as dried limes production.

Submitted by Joanna on Thu, 01/15/2009 - 11:47Another visit, at the beginning of January, 3rd to 6th. We were very happy to meet Dasith De Silva who came all the way from Colombo to visit Prabhavi Resources Center. We are very grateful for his support to us by building this website and giving all staff proper training on how we can make the most of it. Young people from the local community were also able to benefit from his instruction on web design. We feel very privileged that he was willing to volunteer his time and energy freely for the benefit of Prabhavi.
